Forgive my ignorance please describe the purposes of the metal ring and leather side loop

Appalachian Outfitters

The ring allows you to either attach a lanyard or hang the knife of you want to use it as a neck knife instead of the belt loop. The leather loop is for holding a Ferro rod fire starter (not included).
